The first stage of the programme (2012 and 2013) will develop a core collection of 15 accessions from a collection of 10,000 genetic resources. The second stage (2014-2016) will implement the crosses from reference collections to elite material to obtain segregating source populations. The third stage (2017) will focus on advancing and multiplying individuals from these source populations. The fourth stage (2018 and 2019) is to assess and analyze the lines derived from the populations, taking account of year and location effects. Finally the programme will lead to the selection of new varieties and associated understanding from 2020.
